It is in dedication and memory of the legendary John Lennon, that I sit with intention in writing my blog to you today.
John Lennon - Imagine, posted with vodpod
I find that it is important to always remind yourself that the art of creating a home full of comfort, joy, peace, and Love, is not achieved through collections of material objects. The true essence of home is created by those whose voices of laughter, conversation, and music are heard and carried throughout.
Growing up, my Dad was, (and still is), a huge fan of music. He introduced me to the incredible sounds of The Who, Talking Heads, The Grateful Dead, and the Beatles, at a very young age. I Loved going to bed at night listening to music and waking up wanting to hear more. Music filled our home and our hearts. It comforted me, inspired me, and continues to do so to this day.
I vividly remember the first time I heard "Imagine." I was maybe 6 or 7 years old and I was sitting in my family's living room. I remember wanting my Dad to play me The Bangles or Madonna so I could dance, but he insisted that I listen to one song first. It was "Imagine;" and as I listened to the words, I began to cry. I imagined the world I lived in, but I could not understand why it was a world where we did not "live as one?" What was this world that I lived in if it was not a world of peace? I imagined my life, my future; and I imagined peace. It was at this moment that I felt true Love listening to the soothing voice of Mr. John Lennon.
30 years later, I continue the tradition of playing music in our home. My son James is completely in Love with music. He will use any object he can find to create a beat. He Loves to dance to the melodies of the same great legends that I grew up listening to. And I can only dream, that my sons will grow up in a world that John Lennon Imagined some 40 years ago: A world of "hope and ideals, protest and prosperity, (and a) power to make us strive for a better tomorrow."
John Lennon inspires me to pursue my dreams. And it is my dream to create a home that supports and nurtures my family and friends in the pursuit of their own. Imagine . . . . xoxo
