I have been listening and reading the stories surrounding the Queensland floods; but none are more personal and profound that those that I have read on the blogs of my Australian friends. Recently, I came across a beautiful fundraising type effort pioneered by Corrie of Retro Mummy, called "Quilts for Queensland."
Quilts for Queensland is "spreading the Love and hope to the victims of the recent floods in Queensland, one quilt at a time. Because nothing says you care more than a handmade quilt. Something to cuddle and snuggle under, to brighten a bare house, as lives and homes are rebuilt, and just to make you feel oh so very special." (Corrie)
Corrie is asking "for blocks measuring 12 1/2 inches (so that they have a finished size of 12 inch once pieced) or finished quilts that can be given to boys, girls and adults. If you'd like to get involved just drop me an email to email@example.com. We'd love to have you join us and everyone is welcome, beginners to our more experienced quilters. It's all about love here not how long you've been quilting."
I think Quilts for Queensland is such a beautiful way to show Australia how much the world Loves and supports them through this difficult time. And I know just the perfect quilt in my collection to send over.
Here are some others that have been made in honor of Australia.
