Lovers Lane

Yesterday I told you about the amazing trunk show I participated in, over the weekend, with Heather of La Feem. But what I didn't tell you about was what I wore. I share this with you because I received the greatest compliments on my ensemble; and it was all because I put on what best represented me! I wore a pair of black denim skinny jeans with little rose buds all over them, with a black loose fitting top, black leather sandals with gold studs adorning the top, complimented by my two, signature, turquoise bracelets, and a pair of gold and black, vintage Chanel earrings. {i am sorry i don't have a picture to share} In any event, Heather, whose fashionable opinion is like gold, gave me the best compliment: "Only you can pull this outfit off because it is so you! It screams; "This is me!"

I believe that what you wear best is what you feel most comfortable wearing. I don't look through the fashion magazines trying to adopt what ever is the trend of the moment. I think in terms of timelessness and authenticity when it comes to my fashion taste. I think that is why I love vintage fashion so much! It invokes these {almost} indescribable feelings. And it best represents who I am, inside and out.

Recently, I have found that many of the big fashion labels are embracing the bohemian spirit in their collections. But no one does it better than two, inspiring sisters, living and creating together, in Byron Bay, Australia.

Meet the beautifully inspired and creatively talented, Elizabeth {Lizzy} and Isabella {Spelly} Briedis. They are the magical force behind Spell: The Gypsy Collective; a growing fashion house with an international cult following.

Inspired largely by the Native American culture, Lizzy and Spelly design and create handmade fashion and accessories; from necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and rings, to dream catchers, hand bags and boots, Spell Designs is a lifestyle collection of adornment for the bohemian spirit.

Lizzy and Spelly's photo shoots for Spell Designs serve as the inspirational tools and 'think tanks' for the design process of their collections; and not to mention, they are photographic pieces of art. Inspirational images, collected as treasures, highlight their complimentary blog, Spells Jewellery. {every visit leaves me inspired for days}

While Lizzy and Spelly don't claim to be Native American, or even gypsies, they recognize and celebrate an eternally inspired soul that resonates, deep within our bones, a loving and respectful connection to a culture and a lifestyle that celebrates us all!

I feel part of their global tribe! I want to wear their designs! And after they took the time to answer the Lover's Lane questionnaire, I am left dreaming of a part in their next photo shoot/play date . . . .

1. Where do you find your daily inspiration? These days the boundless realm of the blogosphere is a wonderful source of inspiration for Spelly and I! The deeper you dig, the more delightful the visual feast!

2. What is your most treasured item in your home? At the moment my pot belly stove!

3. What is your favorite comfort food? Chocolate. I actually think I'm bordering on addicted.

4. When did you realize that you were an artist? Everyone's an artist. I guess the question is - when did I decide I wanted to make a living out of it. For me it dawned on my around 3 years ago - for Spelly it was around 15 years ago.

5. Best advice you ever received?
My dad always said when you're overwhelmed, do the hardest thing first, from then everything else is easy!

6. Your best advice to an aspiring artist?
Use local artisan or community markets as a gallery for your art - it's a wonderful way to see how people interact with your designs, and a great way to start making a living through your creative passion.

7. What is one thing people would not know about you?
Haha there's probably a million things people don't know about Spelly and I!

8. Are you a Lover of Vintage?
I am a huge lover of vintage and antique-treasures! I have a terrible habit of falling in love with awkwardly large items while travelling overseas  and having to find a way of fitting it in my luggage! In italy I carted a 1950s coffee machine home, and in Bali I found a stash 40 year old kilim fabric bags that were so old the leather was falling apart!

9. Where can we find you next? (Blog Lovers get attached easily)
Rings! It's quite new for us but Spelly and I are really excited because we've designed some gorgeous new rings - they're super oxidized and look ancient! We cant wait to shoot and release them soon!

10. What is your favorite thing to wear?
Turquoise. And my biggest weakness is vintage kimonos.
